Making the Joy Blocks
Here are the key stages in making this item.
- The material for the blocks is dimensioned
- the long edges are rounded on the router table
- The blocks are then crosscut on a mitre saw
- the short edges are rounded on the router table
- The blocks are then drilled for the jointing dowel
- The blocks are whitewashed before being glued together using a dowel joint
- The lettering is marked out and hand painted.
- The blocks and lettering are then gently sanded to give a distressed look.
- The blocks are then given a coat of clear varnish for protections
- The little wooden star is marked, cut out, drilled, sanded and varnishied
- The wooden tag is cut out, drilled, sanded and varnished and then the lettering is hand painted, a further coat of varnish is then added
- the item is then dressed with the jute riboons
- Finally the studs are added and the decoration is finished
