Making The Floating Angel

Here are the key stages in making this item.

• The material for the base is dimensioned
• The edges are rounded and a disk and belt sander. This gives a softer more rustic feel
• The bases are then drilled for the floating rod
• The angel body is cut to size as a rectangle
• The body is then drilled to accept the floating rod, the head/neck dowel
• A jig is used to drill the wing dowel holes at an angle
• A template is then used to mark the angel body shape
• The body shape is then cut on the bandsaw
• The body shape is finished on the disk sander
• The body edges are rounded and a disk and belt sander to give a softer more rustic feel
• The angel head is cut to size as a rectangle
• The head is then drilled to accept the head/neck dowel
• A template is then used to mark the  head shape
• The head is then cut on the bandsaw
• The the head shape is finished on the disk sander
• The head edges are rounded and a disk and belt sander
• The material for the wings is reduce to 12mm thickness
• A template is used to mark the shape of the wings
• the wings are rough cut on the bandsaw and then shape on the disk sander
• A jig is used to drill the wings fro dowels at the correct angle on the pillar drill
• Metal pins (dowels) are inserted into the body and the head and wings are attached to the metal pins
• the angel is them mounted on the floating rod which goes into the base.
• The angel then has a final sanding before being finished with liming wax.
