Making The Gold Leaf Tree Ornament
Here a the key stages in making this item.
- The tree is crafted from high-quality Scandinavian redwood which is light and workable but still durable with lovely grain texture.
- The base is ripped and crosscut and then a 45 degree chamfer is added
- The base is then drilled for a dowel joint
- The trunk piece is cut to a rectangle so it can be accurately drilled for dowels
- The trunk piece is then shaped by cutting to a taper and then carving with an electric rotary disk this give a natural bark effect.
- The main part of the tree is mark the rough cut on the bandsaw and then the first angle is cut on the mitre saw, followed by a final cut on the table saw.
- Saw marks are then added to provide a rustic texture
- The corners are then rounded for safety and a chamfer is added to both sides.
- Little wooden hearts are cut and shaped before being hung on the tree.
- The word LOVE is stamped on solid brass.
- The brass plaque is cut to size, drilled and screwed onto the base
- All parts are sanded and assembled before we add a smoked oak hard wax oil finish.
