Introducing Our Christmas Reindeer Decoration
Our handmade Reindeer Christmas Decoration is a real show stopper. It raises smiles from everyone that sees it. Making The Rustic Reindeer
Here are the key stages in making this item.
- The Reindeer is crafted from high-quality Sapele which is strong and durable with straight grain texture. the reindeers legs, tail and antlers are made from bright steel rod.
- The base is ripped and crosscut and then a 45 degree chamfer is added.
- The base is then drilled for the metal legs.
- The body piece is cut to width and then the angled ends are cut on a mitre saw before the corners are rounded on a disk sander.
- The body piece edges are then rounded on the router using a handscrew clamp.
- Jigs are used to drill the neck hole and tail hole at a 90degree angle for the front of the body.
- The head is then cut and shaped in a similar way to the body.
- The eyes an marked with a punch before being drilled out using a pillar drill.
- The reindeers body is then placed in a jig which allows the leg holes to be drilled at a slight angle which is much more appealing to the eye.
- the antler pieces are cut to lentgh and all sharp edges are removed form the cut metal this includes the edges that are to be hidden in the wood.
- The natler pieces are then bent into antler shapes.
- The antlers are welded on both sides before being sander back to bare metal.
- The legs are glued and inserted using a small jig to ensure the project equally on both sides (nobody wants a wonky reindeer).
- Once the legs are fully dried into the body they are inserted into the base.
- The noses are cut to rough shape and then shaped on the disk sander before they are painted red.
- The reindeer is the assembled.
- finally we add 2 coats of clear hard wax oil finish.
