Rustic Design
Our handmade rustic snowman decoration was the very first decoration we made, and has been very popular since day one. It is adorned with a rustic jute scarf, hat band, and a aged metal heart badge adding a touch of rustic charm to its design. The handcrafted details have a purposefully imperfect finish which contributes to its unique character.
The timeless “Let It Snow” phrase reminds everyone of the joy and wonder of the Christmas season. The Rustic Snowman adds a touch of warmth and whimsy to any space. A delightful addition to any festive collection.
Making The Rustic Snowman
Here are the key stages in making this item.
- The material for the blocks is dimensioned to square
- Round round edges are added on the router
- The block are then crosscut and the round edge added to the end-grain
- The blocks a sanded using a belt sander on the face and hand sanding on the edges
- The blocks are then drilled for the dowels that connect the blocks
- The body and head blocks are given a light coat of white paint.
- The hat brims are cut to square and the corners rounded off
- The brim is then glued to the main hat part
- The bottom of the hat is drilled to accept the dowel joint
- The hat is then painted black
- the snowman is then assembled
- The snowman is then given a light sanding by hand
- a second coat of white paint is added
- The metal heart badge is cut from a sheet using tin snips
- The metal heart badge is then soaked in white vinergar to make it slightly rusty
- The heart badge is glued in place
- The Face details are hand painted
- The ‘Let It Snow’ phrase is added by hand
- The whole body is then given a coat of clear laquer
- Finally the snowman is dressed with his scarf and hat band
